Science of Jumping Program

Written by Jack Woodrup for VerticalJumping.com

The Science of Jumping vertical training program is basic at best. Possibly one of the worst designed programs available today. Read on for our full review.

Quality of Information

The information in the Science of Jumping program whilst accurate, is also woefully incomplete. It focuses only on plyometrics whilst giving barely a minimal nod to the strength components (ironic given the name of the company that produces this program is called Strength Through Science). The strength side of jump training is in fact another module you need to buy.

As least the plyometrics is quite well described. There is sound safety information about this type of training, there is some good advice about the different types of jumps, and there is also some decent points about mental training. However the overall quality of information is still very poor due to it being essentially limited only to plyometrics.

Customization

There is no customization for the Science of Jumping program. Just a list of exercises with progressively increasing workloads. Essentially, there is no consideration made for the individual needs of an athlete. Poor.

Presentation

We bought the book and the DVD and they are both easy to watch and easy to read. If all vertical jump programs were this easy to follow we are sure there would be a lot more decent vertical jumps out there (as long as the programs themselves actually contained decent training advice - unlike this one). The book and DVD show the exercises being done, explain the key points with emphasis (such as minimal knee bend, minimal ground contact time etc), and generally make it easy enough to follow.

Value For Money

Again, due to the limitations in the training information we found this program to be not very good value for money. When you consider you can buy far more complete products for about the same price you would never buy this program. If you want to know about plyometrics, which is essentially all this program is, save yourself some money and read our plyometrics articles.

Conclusion

This program, whilst nice to look at and easy to read, is poor. It covers just one aspect of vertical jump training with absolutely no consideration for what an individual athlete needs. Granted, there will be some athletes who this program could help, it is by no means a complete guide to the 'Science of Jumping".

We cannot recommend this product.
