Vertical Project Thoughts

by Richard Hyde

Vert Project
Good
1) A lot of good programs, and no limit to adding when you stall. 18 different leg programs and customization, great. I bought jump manual, an this one is better.
2) 6" in 4 weeks. Look out
3) great e book, and explanation
4) guy is right on with other stuff, nutrition, rest, stretching.
5) Buy it and you won't go wrong.

Bad
1)Guy looks and talks shady, overstated, unprofessional at times, unnecessary at times.
2) 3 times a week legs seems a bit much
3) I have nfl and basketball and olympic athletes, they wouldn't touch the upper body work out, so that makes me question lower.

I did a program in '87 7 days a week and gained 8 inches. Too much work. I am a sports chiropractic physician, and played 3 sports in college and have good genetics and a work ethic. So at 21, 180lbs, low 4.4 2 times, 35" vertical cold, one foot running 40", Bench 225 8 times. 15 sets - 5 years ago.

Same results in 4 months with 4 sets of bench twice a week at 36. So I understand training and over training now, I know how to train without much effort. Genetics, no real training or lifting = 150lbs. 4.6. So I had raw genentics and quickness. With training and getting looked at possibly by the NFL in college but injuries stalled, God called me to chiropractic anyway.

I respond quick to training. So I don't want to mislead. I explode results at times. At 36 yo, 18 inch vert and out of basketball for years doing triathlons and slowing by the second. Enough of that I'm on the basketball vert bench 315 program again!

I'm going to try many programs and if you want to offer for me to try some. rbhyde1@yahoo.com

VerticalJumping.com Response: Excellent feedback Richard however I can't help bu tnotice that the 3 bad things you mention are all legitimate concerns, but when it comes to the good the only one that holds any truth is point 4. His ideas of nutrition etc are all pretty good (I am not so sure about not drinking milk however).

In your good points you have as follows.

1) Lots of good programs. Yet in your bad points you basically state that 3 times per week for legs is too much and nobody would ever bother with the upper body section. So how can there be any good programs if the lower body section is too much and the upper body section is rubbish.

2)6" in 4 weeks. If these results are yours then congratulations. However many people have tried this program and not got the same sorts of results. You yourself state that you also previoously had great genetics and gained quickly.

3) It may be well written but it does not make the EDT based assumptions used as the basis of his program valid for power development.

5) Lots of people have bought it and feel very much that they went wrong. At the price he charges and with the problems many people have had with the program (see many of the other user comments), it would appear that it is very, very easy to go wrong with this program.

If you have seen the video he posted recently about squats being bad for your vertical jump and then seen the bizarre explanations as to why you would have to seriously question anything this guy says about vertical jump training.
