Vertical Jump Bible Review

Written by Jack Woodrup for VerticalJumping.com

The Vertical Jump Bible by Kelly Baggett is a terrific resource for jump training information. It is one of the best known and well respected jump programs available on the market. But is it a good program to actually follow? Read on for our complete review.

Quality of Information

When we first bought the Vertical Jump Bible we were immediately blown away by the sheer volume and quality of jump related information it provides. If you were to compare it to every other commercially available program except Vertical Mastery in these terms you would find this one to be the clear winner. The FREE Vertical Mastery jump training guide however trumps the need ot actually spend money on most programs though by providing all the training information for free.

That aside, VJB has detailed discussions about the various types of athletic characteristics required for a high vertical jump, as well as how to train them. It has plenty of practical advice on plyometrics, strength training, in season training and the different muscle fiber types and what role they play in determining your maximum vertical jump.

One of the unexpected highlights was the excellent and thorough nutritional advice contained in Body Composition Basics which comes as a bonus for buying the Vertical Jump Bible. Quite frankly this bonus is almost as good, if not better than the Vertical Jump Bible itself.

As a source of jumping training information, it is excellent. Unlike many programs out there, the Vertical Jump Bible takes a refreshingly realistic approach to the sorts of gains and the sorts of time frames that it takes to achieve an impressive vertical jump.

Customisation

The Vertical Jump Bible has a variety of pre-preapred cookie cutter programs in it to cater to the different levels of athlete. It has beginner, intermediate and advanced programs. It further breaks these down for those with and without access to a gym.

The programs themselves are quite well structured. They are designed to contain exercises that will focus on the different athletic characteristics of a vertical jump so you should develop a pretty good balance of the key strengths required.

If we had to make a criticism, and we do so with great hesitation, it is that despite all the wonderful information that is presented, the programs are still essentially cookie cutter programs. They are individually tailored only to the extent that they incorporate more advanced exercises and higher training volumes as you go up through the levels.

That said, most athletes should be able to find a program in there that suits their needs and use it to make steady jumping improvements.

Presentation

The Vertical Jump Bible can be bought either as a downloadable PDF or a printed and bound book. We have the downloadable version which is a plain and simple written word book. There are no pictures, no fancy graphics, no clear exercise descriptions, no nothing. Except of course tons of high quality information.

The lack of pictures and explanations isn't really a big deal though. After all right here at VerticalJumping.com we have a comprehensive video library you can check out for most of the drills in VJB as well as many more.

Whilst visually it lacks the photos and glossy outlay of some of the other programs, in terms of written clarity and the communication of the training concepts, it is excellent. Kelly Baggett is a terrific writer who knows how to easily and succinctly impart his knowledge.

Value For Money

The Vertical Jump Bible is priced at $39.95. When compared to most programs, all the great information on jump training, and the wide variety of programs it provides, this would be extremely good value. However if you haven't already you should download yourself a copy of the FREE 80+ Vertical Mastery training guide. The information in this guide makes the need to pay for most programs, including the otherwise excellent VJB, obsolete.

Conclusion

The Vertical Jump Bible is without doubt an outstanding product. It provides you with plenty of no hype, no nonsense training information and advice. The programs provided, whilst a limited in how customized they are to the athlete, are still well thought out and put together.

It isn't as user friendly or as customized as Vertical Mastery, however, if you were to buy it, you would not be too disappointed.
