Best Use For Improving Vertical Jump

When you deadlift off a box you force yourself to begin the lift from a much lower position. This significantly increases glute recruitment but reduces the overall weight you can pull. As such these variations are best suited for building explosiveness using lighter weights.

Technique Tips

The principles of deadlifting from a box are the same as the regular barbell deadlift except you start with a much greater degree of knee bend. To allow for this it is a good idea to really focus on contracting your glutes forcefully right from the beginning. I must warn you though, you will probably wake up feeling very sore.
